Data center electrical infrastructure: one-line, feeders and branch wiring
The build side of a data center's power. Developing the electrical one-line, installing main feeders and running branch wiring out to the equipment that has to stay on.
DCX-A1 The one-line
Everything starts at the electrical one-line diagram
An electrical one-line diagram is the single drawing that shows how power gets from the utility to the load, through every piece of gear in between, drawn as one line per circuit rather than one line per conductor. In a data center it is the document the entire facility is operated from.
It tells an operator which path is carrying which load, what happens when a source is lost, and which breaker isolates what. When it is accurate, maintenance is routine. When it has drifted away from the building, every maintenance window becomes an investigation.
Keeping it true as the facility changes
Data centers change constantly. Racks get added, capacity gets reallocated, and the one-line either keeps up or quietly becomes fiction. Part of our scope is updating it as the work happens, so the drawing handed back at the end describes the building that actually exists.
DCX-A2 Feeders and branch wiring
Main feeders
The heavy distribution from the service entrance through switchgear to the distribution equipment on the floor. Cable and busway sized, routed, supported and terminated to specification, with the torque values recorded rather than assumed.
Feeder installation in an operating facility is a scheduling problem as much as an electrical one. New capacity typically has to be landed alongside distribution that is already carrying production load.
Branch wiring
From distribution out to the equipment. Branch circuit wiring in a data hall is repetitive, dense and completely unforgiving about labelling, because circuits that are not identified correctly cause outages years later when somebody trusts the label.
Every circuit we install is identified at both ends and reflected in the panel schedule before we leave.
